James “Kimo” Kahikina Akaka Sr., 56, of Hilo died Oct. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired work leader at Pohakuloa Training Area, former tubaist with the Hawaii County Band, vice president of the Puna Canoe Club, 1977 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Visitation from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 19) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Mildred Marie Benevides, 86, of Volcano died Sept. 30 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired custodian for Hilo Union School. Private services held. Survived by daughter, Betty (Jerry) Crivello of Volcano; son, Gilbert (Donna) Benevides of Hilo; brother, Eugene Tavares of Haina; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph Glory Sr., 72, of Kohala died Nov. 2 at Kohala Hospital. Born in Kohala, he was a retired truck driver for Hilo Products Inc., formerly employed with James H. Luke &Sons Inc. and the former Kohala Sugar Company and a member of Landmark Baptist Church. Visitation from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 19) at Landmark Baptist Church in Kapaau. Emiko Kishimori, 78, of Hilo died Oct. 6 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Kapoho, she was retired from the state of Hawaii as a registered nurse at the Hilo Hospital. Private services held. Cecilia Lucas, 99, of Lakewood, Wash., and formerly of Hilo, died Oct. 31 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired registrar with the state Department of Health and active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 17) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Graveside committal services at 1:30 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park. Veronica Crisincia Alcoran Schiavoni, 68, of Kapaau died Oct. 13 at Hale Ho‘ola Hamakua. Born in North Kohala, she was a retired Hele-On bus driver, member of the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Music Ministry and was president of the Resident’s Council at Hilo Extended Care Facility. Visitation from 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 19) at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the Hawi County Cemetery. Casual attire.
